The World Hurts, Let’s Enjoy Art and Eat Together

By sixth grade my sister and I could cater brunch for 100 because my folks loved to throw fancy parties with fancy people, but they wanted cheap labor. So we cooked for DAYS prior, served with shy smiles, snuck champagne and smoked in the kitchen, which of course had a swinging door, restaurant style. I SHAN’T soon forget yelling at mom to chillOUT, JEEZ!! before their annual New Years Day Brunch, as she screamed that there were “people just WAITING at the end of the driveway to come fifteen minutes early“! Eye-role. God forbid everything wasn’t perfect for early-birds.

Aside from the post traumatic stress, it did set in motion my appreciation for celebration. The world hurts so much right now! So helpless, all of us. We don’t have a single guarantee that tomorrow will come, or in a way that is doable. So, to set aside a time; to bring out our best clothes-silver-tableware-decorations; to lay away arguments and debts for a specific hour or two; to make life intentional and beautiful for a tiny stretch, while we can, seems like a reasonable response to mass shootings and Putin’s twitchy nuke finger and utter lack of existential anything.

WE ARE DOING THAT, and you can come. Erin of Betina Roza and I are opening my studio on June 4th and 5th from 10-4 (coincidentally, the same time as the SJI Artists Studio Tour for which we both did not qualify, but are opening anyway). On the night of Saturday the 4th we’ll fire up the pit, roast brats and bean burgers, drink things, eat, and celebrate the start of this real nice Post Pandemic Painful Summer, potluck style. We did this during the pandemic when everything was highly uncertain. It was beautiful. Teresa brought her horse. Open Studio from 10-4 then dinner around the fire on Saturday, 73 Golf Course Rd., FH. How about it? BYOBratsBeerSideDish, we’ll have a bunch of stuff as well.

I hope you’ll save the date, it’s pretty soon, actually. Erin and I will be a little wrecked from the day, but so what? Sunday might not happen, so you should come.

Love ya, I do,

Win
